The Hickory Hills Police Department continues to place great emphasis on establishing goals and objectives in an effort to provide direction consistent with our stated mission. In 2011, short term goals focused on identifying training needs and individual assessment designed to standardize career paths for all department personnel. In addition, all Department Policies were reviewed and revised to ensure accuracy and consistency with nationally accepted standards. While long term strategic planning goals focused on addressing quality of life issues and the implementation of community policing principles designed to address the safety concerns of our residents. This year, the department will continue to emphasize the importance of training and look to improve the accountability and overall effectiveness of personnel.
The Emergency 9-1-1 Center’s infrastructure was completely revamped in 2011 as a result of a federal COPS grant in the amount of $125,000. This has enhanced the City’s ability to respond to, and safely resolve, critical incidents impacting the community. It also has improved the coordination of multi-agency emergency response, in accordance with the established National Incident Management System procedures and protocols. A new computer aided dispatch system designed to improve communication with patrol vehicles in the field was implemented last year, as well. This year, the department will ensure compliance with a federal mandate for narrow banding of all emergency radio equipment, and develop and modify CAD protocols for the handling of critical incidents.
The Department is constantly looking for ways to improve our services to the community. With this focus in mind, a new program was designed and recently implemented to assess internal and external security factors for local businesses. In addition, an on-line satisfaction survey was also developed and implemented in an effort to compliment the existing random call back surveys geared toward gauging the satisfaction of the public we serve. I firmly believe that the support of the public is crucial to the overall effectiveness of our services. If you have utilized the services of the Hickory Hills Police Department during the last twelve months, I strongly encourage you to complete the new satisfaction survey found on our web-site @ www.hickoryhillspd.us.
In conclusion, the Department could not perform at the level at which it does had it not been for the actions of the members of our City Council. They have supported the Police Department in our continuous endeavor to provide professional quality services to our community. This support has had a significant impact on the development and implementation of innovative programs and noteworthy recognition received throughout all levels of government. I consider it a privilege and an honor to serve in the capacity of Chief of Police for the City of Hickory Hills.
Respectfully, Alan T. Vodicka
